December 10, 2015 PLC Minutes



Members Present: Morgan Roby, Colleen Yates, Michael Jones, Emily Mattingly, Catherine Spalding, Jeremy Hill and Dr. Scheerhorn


* Teachers review 5th grade Math Assessment and discussions were had on how to improve for the Spring Assessment Days

* Mr. Hill reviewed what he expected on Dec.15-16 (Assessment Days) and explained what each day would look like!

* Dr. Scheerhorn explained HOUR OF CODE and allowed teachers to try it.

* Teachers went through math assessments to label standard and Bloom's level for each question and to make sure each question was rigorous and matched the standard.

* Started creating Math Assessments for December Assessment Days- Discussion on what were good questions. Teachers decided to use questions from Summer Collaborative Days.

November 5, 2015 PLC Minutes

* Mr. Hill explained December Assessment Days and his expectations for those 2 days. Students will set goals, students will receive accomodations, Mrs. Thomas will announce testing mode, etc.

* Discussed Leader in Me book

* Reviewed expectations for BEST DAYS and what we need to have in each child's folder.

PLC Oct. 22, 2015
Leader In Me:  Chapter 3 Take away:
*Binder of the 7 habits for students to read while waiting to see administration.  Gives the student a chance to reflect on their actions.
*Building students character and social ability
*Use classroom books to teach the 7 habits.  Make a connection to everyday stories.
*Teach students to communicate effectively
*Use creative teaching for example the "Snow White and the 7 Habits"
*Moving toward visiting Leader in Me schools.  Tentative meeting set for 12/2 faculty meeting to discuss our implementation to become a Leader in Me school.
*It is important that everyone go through the same training to get 100% participation

Common Assessment:
District Common Assessment December 15th & 16th
Day 1: Reading/Math in the morning.  Social Studies will be in the afternoon
Day 2: On Demand Writing
We will have a testing day and treat it just like the KPREP testing day.
Vision: Work Hard then Play Hard.  PAWS Rubric
Brooks is working on the schedule for testing and proctors. Students will get full accommodations
Multiple choice will be scored by scantron
Writing portion: teachers will be given a student free afternoon to score the test.
*December 1st Common Assessment has to be made in order for us to go over in that weeks PLC.
December MAP is scheduled for the 1st two weeks of December

Snow Packets: Have something in place and be prepared to send home by November 1st.

MATH & SCIENCE PLC MINUTES August 27, 2015


Members Present: Elaine Beam, Catherine Spalding, Michael Jones, Emily Mattingly, Morgan Roby, Jeremy Hill, Jessica Scheerhorn, Colleen Yates

Celebrations: Emily Mattingly and Michael Jones have started Math Centers! Mrs. Yates is class is doing a great job in Science.

KPREP DATA: Teachers worked to put students in groups based on their KPREP score.

Teachers completed the data analysis document shared by Dr. Scheerhorn. The team will look analyze the lists and add comments next to students'names.

Celebrations- Morgan and Catherine are doing centers!!! Lesson Plans show collaboration! 5th grade is working together nicely!

Discussion:

Small group instruction helps to meet your student's needs and hopefully will lead to lowering the novice and apprentice scores.

Ability Group during WIN time, formative assessments, enrichment/remediation activities,

Utilize Reading Plus On-Demand section to help with writing.

Data Analysis:

Started working on placing students in groups!

Team discussed PLC Norms and decided on the PLC norms that will run our meetings for the rest of the year!


Fundamental Purpose- Focus on students, data-driven decisions, common goal, creating common assessments, setting high expectations, live scoring

Goal- A year's growth for every student (MAP)

Team Vision- Our mission is to provide a challenging, engaging and student centered learning environment that ensures growth and achievement both academically and socially.
